In a world that constantly looks forward, this series is a deliberate act of looking back. "The Ancestral Anchor" explores the objects that tether us to our heritage the "roots" that remain firm even as the branches of our lives grow in new directions. By painting vintage relics like the bellows camera and the lantern, I am documenting the quiet machinery of our ancestors’ lives.
These objects are more than tools; they are the silent witnesses to the struggles and triumphs of those who came before us. The inclusion of the sparrow a bird known for its resilience and its presence in both urban and rural landscapes represents the living spirit of the lineage. Just as a bird perches momentarily on a branch, we occupy these objects and spaces for a brief time before moving on, yet the roots of the objects themselves remain deep in our collective memory.
This series is an invitation to the viewer to reconnect with their own foundations. Through heavy shadows and a palette of earth and metal, I seek to evoke the weight of history and the warmth of a home remembered. It is a tribute to the tangible fragments of the past that continue to nourish our present.
