I use crumpled paper to challenge the idea of a perfect surface. The folds distort the painted eyes, reflecting how perception and identity are layered, fragmented, and constantly shifting. The repeated eyes create a sense of constant awareness, yet no single face is complete. Each eye carries a different emotion, including calm, tension, sadness, and vulnerability, showing that multiple emotional states can exist at once. The tears introduce fragility into the act of looking, reminding us that being seen is not only about observation but also about feeling. Even when the surface is broken, the emotions remain visible.
